Ever wish that foresight had the twenty - twenty vision of hind sight. Now you can have such an advantage when it comes to some of your home improvement projects. Unfortunately, I have a vast collection of photos, evidence if you will, of the damage that can occur when an incompetent contractor is hired to complete your home improvement projects. Here is a small and I emphasize small sample of what I have seen.

WARNING: Due to their graphic nature, the following photos may be disturbing to those who take pride in their homes. Viewer discretion is advised.

Interior damage as the results of an improperly installed plumbing vents flashing.
Damage from improperly installed plumbing vent
Damage from improper valley installation. This after it was quote "Repaired" by the original installer. The felt hung in there a while, but it is not made or intended for continued exposure to the concentrated volume of water in valley area.

Common damage from improper or lack of flashing above garage and entry doors.
Damage from lack of flashing above garage

This damage is a result of a lack of flashing and a door pan. This happens to be a second story door, and as you can see it got contagious in hurry. The first floor framing, wall coverings, insulation, trim etc. all had to be replaced and or removed. First floor repairs are no better. They result in crawl space or basement work, propping the floor and replacing floor framing, floor coverings etc.

Damage from lack of flashing around the door

No window flashing. Look closely; notice the extra house guests scurrying for their lives. Moisture tends to attract these little cousin eddies and their families. (You know, Christmas Vacation, Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid - it's a classic)

No window flashing
